Pine and MDF painting panels
We use only FSC certified (sustainably harvested) poplar lumber for all our panel cradles and stretcher bars. We no longer offer other woods, though they may be special ordered. Poplar is an economical medium density wood with excellent properties for artist’s supports. Poplar is also a fast grower, and is a product of the US and Canada.
We recommend sealing the back to protect against mold and moisture. Also an acrylic sealant (Golden GAC 100) prior to gesso is recommended to prevent discoloration leaching from the panel, which may occur in certain situations, such as using wet painting techniques with more absorbent gesso.
